Brief History

China Petrochemical Corporation (Sinopec Group) is a super-large petroleum and petrochemical entity incorporated in July 1998 on the basis of the former China Petrochemical Corporation. Sinopec Group is a national company solely invested by the State, functioning as a State-authorized investment organization in which the State holds the controlling share. The President of Sinopec Group is Mr. Cheng Tonghai, the same as its legal representative. Headquartered in Beijing , Sinopec Group has a registered capital of RMB104.9 billion. 

Major share holders

Sinopec Group is a national company solely owned by the State. Sinopec Group, on behalf of the state, controls many subsidiaries, fully owned companies and share-holding companies. China Petroleum and Chemical Corporation (Sinopec Corp.), a company controlled by Sinopec Group, issued H-shares and A-shares respectively in October 2000 and August 2001, and has been listed in Hong Kong , New York , London and Shanghai stock market. By the end of 2004, Sinopec Corp. has a total of 86.7 billion shares, with 67.92% of the shares held by Sinopec Group, 9.50% held by the State Development Bank and state assets management companies, 19.36% held by foreign investors and 3.23% owned by domestic investors. 

Business overview

Sinopec Group's key business activities include: industrial investment and portfolio management; the exploration, production, transportation (including pipeline transportation), marketing and utilization of oil and natural gas; oil refining; the wholesale of gasoline, kerosene and diesel; the production, marketing, storage and transportation of petrochemicals and other chemical products; the design, construction and installation of petroleum and petrochemical engineering projects; the overhaul and maintenance of petroleum and petrochemical equipments; the manufacturing of electrical and mechanical equipments; research, development, application and consultation services on technology, information and alternative energy products; the import and export of commodities and technologies both for the Group and as a proxy (with the exception of those commodities and technologies that are either banned by the State or to be carried out by State-designated companies).  

Sinopec Group ranked the 54th in the Fortune Global 500 in 2003.

Top management

Cheng Tonghai: President and Legal person. He is a senior economist with rich experienced in management of petrochemical field. Cheng was graduated from northeast petroleum university of China . On April, 1998, Cheng was appointed as the vice general manager of Sinopec Group and then vice chairman in Sinopec Cooperation since February, 2000. In April 2003, he assumed the office of the President of Sinopec Group.

Liu Genyuan: vice general manager, director of Sinopec corp. Mr. Liu graduated from Shanghai Science and Technology University and has more than 30 years experience in Chinese petrochemical field.
