Brief History

Established in 1984 and celebrated its 20th anniversary on 1st January 2004, the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China is the largest commercial bank in China . After 20 years of reform and development, ICBC has launched into the orbit of developing quality returns and scale in harmony. By the end of 2003, the total assets had amounted approximately to RMB 5.3 trillion, about a fifth of the total assets of financial institutions in baking industry of China . In 2003, ICBC ranked 16th among the Top 1000 World Banks by the Banker, an England journal, according to their first-class capitals and was rated as "Global Top 500" of the fortune for 5 consecutive years. It was among the Top 10 Quality Products (Services) of the Far Eastern Economic Review.

ICBC owns the largest client throng in China , about 100 million personal clients and 8.1 million corporate clients. Over 20,000 business offices of ICBC and nearly 390,000 employees deliver efficient and high-quality services to clients. By the end of 2003, THE deposit balance of ICBC surpassed RMB 4.6062 trillion. Its loan balance was about RMB 3.3929 trillion. The annual operation profits stood at RMB 63.5 billion.

Under the strong support of science and technical measures, ICBC is continuously to innovate its business. E-banking vertical service system including self-banking, telephone banking, mobile banking and Internet banking is getting matured day by day. More than 300 cities have opened Internet baking service. The transaction volume of E-banking in 2003 reached over RMB 22.3 trillion and RMB 19.4 trillion transaction volumes for Internet banking business.

Mr. Jiang graduated from Shanghai Finance and Economics University of China in 1984, and then got his master's and doctor's degree in Shanghai Jiao Tong University of China. Mr. Jiang was appointed Vice President of ICBC Shanghai Branch, President of Shanghai City Cooperative Bank, President of ICBC Shanghai Branch, and Vice President of ICBC successively. In February 2000, Mr. Jiang was appointed President of ICBC. Mr. Jiang's banker career began from a counter clerk of ICBC.
